Meet the team: Rachel Gong
Since 2019, Plug In Digital has an official branch in China. Thanks to our outpost in Shanghai and to our team there, we are an active member of the Chinese video game industry and we can make our partners network benefits from the best support for distribution, publishing, business development and marketing on the world N°1 market for video games. Part of this skillful China’s team, today meet our Program Manager, Rachel Gong!
● Introduce yourself in a few words, who are you, personally speaking?
Hi everyone! My name is Rachel, and I’ve been working in the game industry in China for several years. Actually, I’m also a player, even if nowadays I do not have too much time for this, I still try to get some chance to play what I like.
● For how long have you been part of Plug In Digital? Was it a dream for you to work in the video game industry?
I joined Plug In Digital in August 2020, it was awesome to join the video game industry. I like to play console games (FC, MD) since I was a child, so having a job connected to video games was kind of my dream, even when I was a student😊
● What was your job before you came here?
I was a project manager in a small local game company focusing on mobile games. My responsibility is to balance the production team, and setup everything they need, like headcounts, schedule, etc…
● What is your role within Plug In Digital?
My role as a program manager is to handle all localization projects, since Chinese localization is very important for every game which wants to get a good sale in China. And I will also try to develop more business opportunities here, actually there are already some awesome opportunities under discussion.
● Compared to France, what’s special about the video games market in China?
The video game market is quite different between France and China, especially for console game. I think console game is quite normal in France, and lots of families have a console at home. But in China, mobile game is the biggest market, and console game market is quite small since console was just imported into China from 2014, and lots of people still don’t know what it is. But it’s also growing, with the release of new consoles, I think it may be a good opportunity for console gaming in China.
●What kind of success would you like to bring to the company? What could be your ideal project here?
I will help to follow all the localization project, and also some business development. Actually I’m already handling all localization process for Dear Villagers now, and so far all of them went well. And Chinese localization (also Japanese one) is the service we can provide to all partners in Europe and America, so I think there are more and more titles on the way.
